Peter Groeneveld, Reuters, Expensive Stents

Although widely used throughout the U.S., expensive stents are often no more effective as an artery-clearing procedure than much cheaper alternative treatments, said LDI Senior Fellow Peter Groeneveld in a Reuters interview. A Penn Associate Professor of Medicine, Groeneveld told the national wire service, "All the incentives are aligned right now to use the most expensive, newest therapeutic options when often there are much cheaper, tried and true, evidence-based therapies that are going to deliver just as much benefit.
