Title: New Models for Children's Mental Health Services in Urban Communities" Drilling Deeper in Urban Schools
In this seminar sponsored by LDI and the Penn Center for Mental Health Policy and Services Research (CMHPSR), Dr. Marc Atkins presented a mental service model that identifies and leverages indigenous resources within schools and communities to change the social context of schooling for youth in urban poverty, and promote opportunities for positive mental health and improved academic outcomes for children.
Atkins is Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he holds appointments in the Department of Psychiatry and the Institute for Juvenile Research. He is a leading researcher in the development of effective mental health services for children and families living in low-income communities.
