A new study led by LDI Senior Fellow Scott Lorch, MD, MSCE, that links a late 1990's spike in Philadelphia's infant mortality rate to the closure of several hospital maternity units throughout the city is the subject of a Philadelphia Inquirer article. The project analyzed the period of 1995 through 2005 when nine of the maternity units were shut down. A neonatologist, Lorch is Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Philadelpia.
