Ari Borthakur, PhD, MBA is Associate Director of the Center for Magnetic Resonance and Optical Imaging, Department of Radiology, at the Perelman School of Medicine. He has over 20 years of experience leading teams to solve complex biomedical problems. Dr. Borthakur is currently an operational leader of the nation’s first organization dedicated to leveraging innovative business models in order to add value to the field of radiology by improving efficiency, revenue, and patient outcomes.

His work in implementing AI for real-time analysis of patients’ images won a Radiology Business Journal 2020 Imaging Innovation Award. He co-leads Penn’s Imaging Appropriate Use Criteria program mandated by CMS to ensure appropriate use of imaging services for the patient’s condition in order to help reduce unnecessary care and costs.

Borthakur holds an MBA from The Wharton School and a PhD in Biophysics from the University of Pennsylvania.
