Jason Mazique

Williams College, Class of 2021

Major: Political Science

Jason Mazique is currently a rising junior at Williams College in Williamstown, MA, where he is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science alongside pursuing the Pre-Medical pre-professional track. His interests within the field of healthcare are primarily geared toward legislative healthcare reform, addressing elevated medical costs, and improving the distribution of public health infrastructure to underserved areas. In particular, he is interested in creating and implementing effective healthcare policy initiatives that address as well as balance cost and access. His interest in the administrative and policy-shaping portion of medicine first grew during his time volunteering at a family and child care center in Washington D.C, but eventually became a passion during his time working at Health and Human Services. Following his undergraduate career at Williams, Jason hopes to use both his experiences in college and from SUMR@Penn to enroll in a dual MBA/MD program.

During his time at SUMR, Jason spends his time working on two separate projects. The first project involves working on the Life STORRIED project with Dr. Zachary Meisel, MD, qualitatively researching the effectiveness of narrative-based intervention on the opioid epidemic in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The second project involves working with Dr. Therese Richmond, PhD, investigating the causes of chronic pain inequities among minority populations. The project hopes to eventually identify potential intervention pathways to address pain burdens for African-American and Latinx patients.

While at Williams College, Jason serves as a Junior Advisor for the incoming first year class. Within this role, Jason guides first year students throughout their first year of college by providing available resources for any educational, psychological, or financial needs and helping them become acclimated to college life. He also serves as the Alumni Secretary of the Williams College Men’s Rugby Team as well as serving as a member of the Medical Bioethics Club. In his free time, Jason likes to watch his favorite NBA team (the Toronto Raptors) lose in the playoffs, listen to music, and have spirited political debates with friends.
