Aaron Kim

University of Richmond , Class of 2028

Major: Mathematical Economics and Health Studies

Aaron Kim is a rising junior at the University of Richmond pursuing a double major in Mathematical Economics and Health Studies. Motivated by his childhood experiences with CHIP and his work as an EMT, Aaron is passionate about using economic methods to improve healthcare access and quality in the United States, particularly for low-income and underserved households. After graduation, he hopes to pursue a PhD in economics.

As a SUMR scholar, Aaron assists Dr. Harold Schmidt on an NIH-funded study examining the use of disadvantage indices across healthcare and non-healthcare sectors. This research focuses on identifying the fields in which disadvantage indices are used, the purposes they serve, and how they can promote health opportunity.

At Richmond, Aaron works as an EMT, serves as a tutor for Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, co-instructs Introduction to College, and serves as a resident assistant for first-year students. During the 2026–27 academic year, Aaron will study abroad at the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he hopes to expand his knowledge of economics and public health policy. In his free time, Aaron enjoys watching movies with his family, learning guitar, and playing sports with friends.
