Arya Soomro
Arya Soomro is a third-year student at Berea College majoring in Quantitative Economics and Mathematics. She is interested in the application, refinement, and innovation of statistical methods and novel machine learning techniques to improve clinical, disease, and population health outcomes. Arya aspires to pursue a PhD in Biostatistics to further strengthen the integration of statistics in health research.
During the SUMR program, Arya works on clinical data analysis and biostatistical modeling of pediatric cardiovascular outcomes at the Cardiac Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia under Dr. Joseph Rossano. Additionally, she works alongside Dr. Ari Friedman to support the statistical validation of an LLM-based cognitive screening tool.
At Berea, Arya serves as vice president of the Berea Economics and Data Science Association, secretary of the Berea Mathematics Society, and a teaching assistant in the Mathematics Department. As part of her labor position, she also works as a production potter in the ceramics studio through Student Crafts. Previously, she worked as an investment analyst for the Motley Fool Investment Club and represented Berea College in datathons such as the Econ Games and ASA DataFest.
In her free time, Arya enjoys dancing with the South Asian Fusion dance group, hiking, running, cooking, and spending time with friends.
