Boz Miller

University of Pennsylvania , Class of 2029

Major: Nursing

Minor: Nursing and Health Services Management

Boz Miller is a rising sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a minor in Nursing and Health Services Management. He is deeply committed to improving healthcare access and outcomes for underserved populations, with a particular focus on pediatric care and health equity. Following graduation, he plans to work as a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) nurse before pursuing a DNP or PhD to advance clinical practice and advocacy for marginalized communities.

As a SUMR scholar, Miller collaborates on two research initiatives that use both qualitative and quantitative methodologies to explore pressing public health challenges. Working with Dr. Peter Cronholm and Andrea Bigler, he contributes to a series of qualitative and mixed-methods studies, applying communication techniques such as reflective listening and teach-back to support data collection and narrative analysis throughout the research process. His second project, alongside Dr. Vincent Bio Bediako, investigates the intersections of climate change and maternal-infant health in low-resource settings. Using the First 1000 Days framework, Miller analyzes the relationship between prenatal heat exposure and infant mortality in Ghana by working with georeferenced Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) and climate datasets to examine how healthcare access mediates climate-health pathways.

At Penn, Miller balances his academic pursuits with active leadership and campus involvement. He serves as fundraising chair for Student Nurses at Penn (SNAP), where he leads fundraising initiatives and represents the organization at national nursing conferences such as the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) to advocate for professional advancement and health equity. He is also the community outreach chair for Penn in Hand (PiH), the university’s American Sign Language club, where he partners with the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf to support local families. Additionally, he contributes as a writer for the Wharton Undergraduate Healthcare Club’s Penn Healthcare Review and the Penn Undergraduate Science Research Journal, focusing on the intersections of biology, structural health burdens, and ethics. He also works as an Ambassador Hospital Concierge at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, supporting patient navigation and safety. In his free time, he enjoys volunteering, photography, and traveling.
