Felix Kohler
Felix Kohler is a sophomore at the University of California, Berkeley studying Molecular & Cell Biology. Kohler has a strong interest in applying genetic epidemiology to improve clinical outcomes and better understand environmental contributors to disease. He has conducted research at both the Ruhi Lab at UC Berkeley and the Damrauer Lab at the University of Pennsylvania. At the Ruhi Lab, he studied nutrient flow within ecosystems and how environmental changes affect mercury accumulation, while at the Damrauer Lab, he studied genetic causes of diseases such as leukemia.
As a SUMR Scholar, Kohler works with Dr. Heather Burris at Penn-CHOP ECHO to study environmental impacts on prenatal and infant health and explore ways to better support maternal health. He supports Dr. Burris through data collection, specimen transport, and study development. His work focuses on identifying key stressors in early development to help create more robust support systems for mothers and infants in diverse clinical settings.
Outside of research, Kohler is passionate about community service and sports. He volunteers with UCSF Patient Support, the Berkeley Animal Shelter, and the American Cancer Society. In his free time, he is an avid basketball fan who enjoys both playing the game and applying statistics to better understand it.
