Agnes Scott College , Class of 2026

Major: Mathematics and Economics

Minor: Chemistry

Insherah Qazi is a rising senior at Agnes Scott College majoring in Mathematics and Economics with a minor in Chemistry, on the pre-med track. She is passionate about healthcare equity and violence prevention, and hopes to pursue graduate studies in health economics and policy, alongside a future in medicine.

As a 2025 SUMR Scholar, Qazi contributed to two research projects. The first, with Dr. Keven Cabrera at the Penn Medicine Center for Health Justice, focused on increasing youth engagement in community greenspace initiatives in Philadelphia. The project aimed to center adolescent voices in the design of upcoming miniparks to promote health, safety, and belonging in marginalized communities. Qazi conducted qualitative interviews, participated in thematic data analysis, and supported the development of youth-informed design and engagement strategies.

Her second project, under the mentorship of Dr. Betsy Salazar, explored the growing influence of private equity ownership in healthcare. Insherah helped to expand a national database to include physician group ownership and will analyze its impact on access to pediatric and perinatal care. This work incorporated advanced causal inference methods and offered insight into the intersection of health services and financial ownership.

Outside of research, she serves as Student Government Association President at Agnes Scott College and volunteers at Emory University Hospital. She has also served on the National Advisory Board for Students Demand Action, advocating for gun violence prevention across Southern communities.

In her free time, Qazi finds joy in reading, running, watching films, and stepping outside her comfort zone by exploring new places and experiences.
