Liah Perez Classe

Franklin and Marshall College , Class of 2026

Major: Chemistry and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

Liah Perez Classe is a recent graduate of Franklin & Marshall College double-majoring in Chemistry and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology on the pre-med track. She conducts wet lab research investigating protein structure and function through the incorporation of an unnatural amino acid into the GFP protein system. Through this work, she developed an interest in health services and policy research, which motivated her to pursue the SUMR program. After completing her undergraduate studies, she hopes to pursue a dual MD degree, possibly alongside an MPH, and work as a physician in public health while contributing to healthcare policy reform.

During the SUMR program, Liah works on two research projects. The first, under the mentorship of Dr. Shana Stites, focuses on social determinants of health and improving the accessibility and inclusivity of research across diverse populations. The second project, under the mentorship of Yuvaram Reddy, examines strategies for expanding healthcare access for patients with end-stage kidney disease.

Outside of research, Liah serves as a leader and facilitator for Attollo Medicine (AMED), a program that supports high school students interested in healthcare careers through mentorship, career exploration, and discussions surrounding social determinants of health. She is also a member of the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats Women’s Volleyball team and volunteers in clinical settings throughout the Lancaster community.
