Matthew Kedir
Matthew Kedir is a NASPA-certified Peer Educator and undergraduate sophomore majoring in Human Health with Epidemiology Focus at Emory University. With interests in chronic disease epidemiology, preventative health promotion, and implementation science, he aspires to pursue a master’s degree in Epidemiology, and then a public health doctorate degree. Post-graduation plans include: lecturing within higher education, conducting postsecondary research, and testing for the National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) certification.
As a full-time SUMR Scholar, he is being dually-mentored. Alongside Dr. Jaya Aysola, and her team, he is supporting the analyses of the Learning Health Systems of 18 medical centers nationally. Dr. Jaya Aysola is based at the Penn Medicine Center for Health Equity Advancement, and Perelman School of Medicine. With Dr. Sophia Hua, and her team, he is supporting the Penn Medicine GRAIN Study, inquiring into how behaviorally informed marketing and financials incentives affect purchasing behavior among individuals with prediabetes, or diabetes. Dr. Sophia Hua is based at the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy of Perelman School of Medicine. At SUMR he is training in hands-on mixed methods research, participant-focused research operations, graduate applications, and manuscript building.
At Emory, he works as a Research Assistant for the Sleep Epidemiology Research Group at the Department of Epidemiology, independently teaches and facilitates “HLTH 100 – It’s Your Health & Wellbeing” with the Emory Health 1,2,3,4 Program, supports fellow first-generation low income students through undergraduate admissions with Matriculate, and has founded a publishing-focused Atlanta branch of the 6-continent non-profit, the Coalition for Global Health Innovation (CGHI X ATL). In his free time, he enjoys cat videos, playing the Double Bass, and creating sheet music.
