Myla Wallace
Myla Wallace recently graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She is passionate about exploring the intersection of oral health, public health, and health disparities research, particularly within underserved communities. Through extensive shadowing experiences across multiple dental specialties and work within underserved communities, Wallace developed a strong interest in patient-centered care, community health, and the role research can play in improving healthcare outcomes and quality of life. She hopes to make a lasting impact through a career that combines dentistry, public health, and research.
During the University of Pennsylvania SUMR program, Wallace will work on two research projects. She will collaborate with Kari Hexem on the COmPLETE Study, a qualitative research project focused on understanding the lived experiences of younger adults experiencing early total edentulism in order to improve denture experiences and patient care for this population.
Wallace will also work with Kimberly T. Arnold Jenkins on the Black Church Mental Health Assets and Needs Assessment Project, which partners with Black churches in the Greater Philadelphia area to assess congregational mental health needs and support the development of culturally responsive, evidence-based wellness programming within Black communities.
Outside of academics and research, Wallace enjoys traveling, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with family and friends.
