Nicole Hernández
Nicole Hernández is a rising senior at Harvard College pursuing a BA in Economics with a minor in Mathematical Sciences. She is passionate about promoting economic growth and improving life quality in developing countries, particularly in her home continent, Latin America. After graduating, she hopes to continue her education in graduate school to attain a PhD in economics.
As a SUMR scholar, Nicole participates in a variety of projects. She works with Dr. Daria Murosko on a qualitative analysis of housing affordability during pregnancy and on understanding housing cost burden and adverse birth outcomes through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC). Additionally, she assists Julia Hinckley in the DE Direct Care Workers cost analysis for the Delaware State Government, and on the Philly BENefits Partnership, an initiative aimed at improving benefit enrollment with the long-term goal of reducing poverty in the City of Philadelphia.
At Harvard, Nicole has been a recruitment director for the design board of the newspaper The Crimson, a calculus course assistant for the Math Department, a Microeconomics course assistant, and part of the Harvard Candela Latin Dance Troupe. She has had the opportunity to travel as staff of Harvard Model United Nations conferences, and as an intern of a network of hospitals in Madrid, Spain. In her free time, Nicole enjoys running and reading novels.
