“From Disease to Health: Population Based Experience of a Major Community Health System”

Sandra E. Brooks is an AOA medical graduate of Howard University, completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Pennsylvania, Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and an MBA at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Brooks served as full Professor and Director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Maryland. She has most recently led and developed population health based prevention initiatives and research administration for a major health system. The population-based framework encompassed cancer, tobacco related behaviors, and the metabolic conditions of obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

Dr. Brooks has authored 40 scholarly papers and book chapters, with a focus on health disparities and health outcomes. She has served as the PI on national trials and contracts with the NCI National Community Cancer Centers Program, and served as the national Principal Investigator of a recently completed multi-center National Cancer Institute Cooperative Gynecologic Oncology Group Trial, that was significant for its role as one of the few studies that examined patient and physician factors affecting efficient enrollment onto clinical trials. Dr. Brooks currently holds a full Professor appointment on the volunteer faculty of the University of Kentucky College of Public Health and serves on the Education Board of the American Public Health Association and Cancer Prevention and Control and Health Disparities Committees of NRG Oncology.
