Six Insights on Health Care Affordability From Penn LDI
LDI Fellows’ Research Quantifies the Effects of High Health Care Costs for Consumers and Shines Light on Several Drivers of High U.S. Health Care Costs

Polls consistently show that affordability is the public’s top concern, with the cost of health care ranking as Americans’ leading economic worry. Nearly half of adults report difficulty affording care. At the federal level, policymakers are debating prescription drug pricing reforms, consumer-directed approaches, and price transparency initiatives, alongside changes to Medicaid and ACA subsidies.
Penn LDI, in partnership with Penn Washington, will host an invite-only, nonpartisan briefing for Congressional staff and policy leaders to examine the evidence on the drivers of high health care costs in the U.S. and policy approaches to improve affordability. The discussion will highlight key evidence, tradeoffs, and practical considerations for federal policymakers seeking to make health care more affordable for Americans.
A reception will follow the discussion. If you have any questions about this event, please contact Joanna Kim, MPH at joanmkim@wharton.upenn.edu.
