Elizabeth (Liza) Sonnenberg, MD, is a University of Pennsylvania General Surgery resident who completed a research fellowship as a 2017-2019 National Clinician Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania. She received her medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania where she was awarded the I.S. Ravdin and Jonathan Rhodes surgical scholarship prizes. Liza is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism medical honor societies. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Virginia, where she majored in the interdisciplinary major of Human Biology.
She plans to pursue a fellowship and career in abdominal transplant surgery. She is interested in organ allocation policy, outcomes after kidney and liver transplantation, and innovative strategies to address the organ shortage crisis.
She is also interested in health system organization and quality improvement. She served as the co-chair of UPHS’s Housestaff and Advanced Practitioner Quality Council from 2017-2018 during which time worked on ACGME Patient Safety Collaborative.
