Julie Sochalski, PhD, RN

Julie A. Sochalski, PhD, RN is Associate Dean for Academic Programs at the School of Nursing and Co-Director of the National Clinical Scholars Program at the University of Pennsylvania. She is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in health policy and the health care workforce. From 2010-2013, she served as the Director of the Division of Nursing and as Principal Advisor for Health Workforce Policy at the Health Resources & Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services in the Obama Administration. There, she aligned health workforce programs to expand access to comprehensive primary care in underserved communities and advanced interprofessional education and practice. Her research is focused on elucidating the workforce inputs into high quality, team-based primary care, and assessing the impact of policy initiatives on health care workforce development and deployment. She has been federally funded for systems-level research to inform and promote the widespread enhancement of primary care training in integrated behavioral health and expanding access in underserved communities. Her global engagements include being part of the leadership team for the Penn Medicine-Cornell University project with the Vin Group to build a new health sciences school and health system care models to advance clinical training and health care throughout Vietnam.
