Shivani Agarwal is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine within the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. She developed and directs the pediatric to adult diabetes transition program at the Rodebaugh Diabetes Center at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She conducts health services research to identify health system and societal factors which affect outcomes in young adults with diabetes. She uses this research to develop innovative clinical models to improve the transition from pediatric to adult care, as well as engage young adults in their care. She was recently awarded a grant from the Type 1 Diabetes Exchange and Helmsley Charitable Trust as the PI of a multi-site national study to investigate racial and socioeconomic disparities in care in young adults with type 1 diabetes. She also has an interest in health policy and serves on the Advocacy and Public Outreach Core Committee for the Endocrine Society to advise and advocate on healthcare legislation in endocrine disorders. She completed an adult endocrinology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, internal medicine residency at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Medical Degree at New York University School of Medicine, and Masters of Public Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where she received a merit scholarship and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Public Health Honors Society.
