LDI Distinguished Health Policy Fellows

Penn LDI Distinguished Health Policy Fellows are national authorities in their fields who enrich the intellectual life of the Penn LDI community by sharing policy expertise and experiences with researchers and students. They engage with Penn students, faculty, and alumni on and off campus, as well as guest lecture within Penn LDI's affiliated courses and education programs.

David Shulkin, MD

Term: 2018-2019

David Shulkin, MD, a national thought leader on veterans’ health and patient-centered care, was appointed by President Donald Trump as the 9th United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs, and served in the role from February 2017 until March 2018. He also served as the Under Secretary of Veterans Affairs for Health under President Barack Obama. Read more.

Andy Slavitt, MBA

Term: 2018-2019

One of the most influential and prominent health care leaders in the U.S., Andy Slavitt served as Acting Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) from 2015-2017, and is currently Board Chair of the non-profit organization United States of Care. Read more.

Nicole Lurie, MD, MSPH

Term: 2017-2018

Dr. Lurie served as the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) during the Obama Administration. She is currently a consultant to the World Bank and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Initiatives. Read more.
