Bogdan Pasaniuc, PhD is Professor of Genetics in the Perelman School of Medicine and Professor of Computer and Information Science in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. He leads the computational genomics for precision health research group within the department of Genetics and Institute for Biomedical Informatics. The group develops statistical and computational methods to understand the genetic basis of disease. His main research interest is in precision health using genomics to predict health outcomes to stratify patients based on their genetic profiles to identify undiagnosed rare diseases and to translate computational algorithms to the clinic.
Dr. Pasaniuc joined Penn as founding Director of the Centre for Computational Biomedicine in 2024. Previously, he led research in statistical and computational genomics at UCLA within the departments of Computational Medicine Pathology and Lab Medicine and Human Genetics. At Penn, Dr. Pasaniuc leads the nascent MyPennGenome program that aims to integrate genomic data joint with AI/ML to improve medical outcomes in Penn Medicine patients. He earned his PhD in Computer Science and Bioinformatics from the University of Connecticut in 2008.
