Jonathan Tan, MD, MPH, is the Division Chief of General Anesthesiology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds two endowed chair appointments: the CHOP Endowed Chair of Pediatric General Anesthesiology and the Distinguished Endowed Chair in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. A practicing pediatric anesthesiologist with formal training in biomedical informatics and health care policy and administration, he brings a rare convergence of clinical, analytical, and policy expertise to his leadership. Dr. Tan has experience at four of the nation’s top children’s hospitals an uncommon professional trajectory that has exposed him to fundamentally different practice models, patient populations, and approaches to care delivery.
Dr. Tan leads the Spatial Health Lab, a multidisciplinary team developing the next generation of geospatial tools and spatial analytics for pediatric health system science. The team is building frameworks that translate location-aware data into real-world insight — identifying where care gaps emerge, where systems underperform, and where targeted investment can drive measurable change. The solutions are designed to describe the geography of pediatric health and equip health systems with the spatial intelligence needed to act on it.
Dr. Tan serves on the Board of Directors of the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia and the Society for Technology in Anesthesia. He is a leader with the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation and the American Society of Anesthesiology. He is recognized as a Fellow of both the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
