Mia Djulbegovic, MD, MHS is a clinical and research fellow in Hematology & Oncology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her internal medicine residency training at Yale University where she also earned a Master’s in Health Science in the National Clinician Scholars Program, a postdoctoral fellowship in health services research that trains clinicians who aim to be change agents through health policy research and partnerships. Her mission is to become a clinician investigator whose work informs healthcare redesign and improves health and health care. Her scholarship lies at the intersection of medical decision-making and outcomes research. Highlights of her prior work include a systematic review and meta-analysis on prostate cancer screening, a decision analysis on using direct oral anticoagulants for prevention of recurrent venous thromboembolism, evaluation of physician regret proneness with different cognitive styles, development of an instrument to measure decision ownership of patient care, and evaluation of the association between hospitalist physician workload with patient outcomes. Her evolving research mission is to evaluate the factors that influence clinician decision making and behavior and how this affects outcomes for patients and clinicians (such as burnout).
