Xavier Diao, MD is an Attending Psychiatrist and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed his residency training at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, with further training in child and adolescent psychiatry at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. His research and clinical interests include LGBTQ mental health disparities, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and the psychiatric care of transitional age youth and young adults. He is the recipient of the Journal of Gay and Lesbian Mental Health Outstanding Resident Paper Award, the Lois T. Flaherty, MD Best Resident Paper in Adolescent Psychiatry Award, and a NIDDK T35 Short-Term Institutional Research Training Grant to investigate the association between metabolic indices and prodromal psychosis in adolescents. He was a former volunteer counselor at the Trevor Lifeline, the only nationwide, around-the-clock crisis intervention and suicide prevention helpline offering free and confidential telecounseling for LGBTQ youth.
