Medical interns who are provided with "protected sleep" periods are more alert on the job, according to a new study lead by LDI Senior Fellow Kevin Volpp. The project looked at interns and senior medical students at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and at the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The findings are the subject of news articles in a variety of national publications including US News & World Report, NPR, ABC Los Angeles and MedPage. Volpp, MD, PhD, is both a Professor of Medicine at Penn's Perelman School of Medicine and of Health Care Management at The Wharton School, as well as Director of LDI's Center for Health Incentives and Behavioral Economics.
