Former Bush Administration OMB Official Critiques GOP Plans for ACA Repeal
As the Congressional Republican bloc returned to Capital Hill to begin its task of dismembering the Affordable Care Act, James Capretta discussed GOP options and potential pitfalls in a keynote address at the University of Pennsylvania's annual Health Policy Retreat.
Capretta, MA, is a Resident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and former Associate Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget. His presentation was titled, "The Outlook for the ACA and What Might Replace It."
The 25 minute video covers the main points of his presentation detailing how the ACA rollback is currently planned as well as the various options and potential consequences. He said his own view is that the current strategy aimed an immediate declared repeal and a two or three year delay before the full rollback of the law's major provisions "won't work."
Capretta predicted, "they won't be able to do it with that kind of political framing because of the upheavel it is likely to set in motion in the insurance marketplace."
