Shiriki Kumanyika Named President-Elect of APHA
LDI Senior Fellow Shiriki Kumanyika has been named the new President-elect of the American Public Health Association (APHA). Kumanyika, PhD, MPH, is a Professor of Biostatistics and Epidemiology and Associate Dean for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention at Penn's Perelman School of Medicine. Her appointment is the subject of a WHYY Newsworks article.
The APHA is a professional organization for public health professionals that has 30,000 members around the world and a mission to "protect all Americans and their communities from preventable, serious health threats and strive to assure that community-based health promotion and disease prevention activities and preventative health services are universally accessible in the United States."
The APHA membership includes academic researchers, epidemiologists, bio-statisticians, occupational safety, health policy and management experts as well as professionals in local, state and federal agencies working in 27 areas of public health activities.
