Perelman School of Medicine Vice Dean for Diversity and Inclusion Eve Higginbotham, SM, MD, has been a strong and constant supporter of the SUMR program as well as a mentor within it. "SUMR is unique in the way it takes students inside health services research, which few of them know anything about," she said. "Health services research is not as accessible as seeing someone working in a lab on the biomedical side, even as its potential for impact reaches into the higher levels of policy making. SUMR is distinctive in the way it exposes students and provides a path toward being part of that. It's one of Penn's longest and most successful pipeline programs."
