Janiece Strange is a Senior at Morgan State University, where she is a scholar of the Earl Graves School of Business pursuing her BA is Business Administration. Janiece Strange is interested in pursuing her career in the field of Mental Health, specifically with the African American Woman population, helping to increase the knowledge on mental health and ways to overcome their challenges.
As a SUMR scholar, Janiece assisted Linda Fleisher with the AWARE pilot program funded by the National Science Foundation, researching the barriers Women & Minorities face when accessing funding opportunities thought the NSF or other foundations. She worked closely to receive funding for Women and Minority through SBIR/STTR, a program that assists small businesses in research and development. The SUMR interns determined the needs of entrepreneurs and matched them with proper research and trainings. The SUMR interns also assisted with SBIR/STTR applications and worked closely with small business to promote Women & Minority entrepreneurs applications with these foundations.
In addition, Janiece worked with Rachel Hadler in the research of Dignity in Care. Dignity in Care is program that studies and research patient dignity. This program focused on promoting patient dignity as a way of coping with many of the psychological and existential challenges that seriously ill patients face. Janiece worked closely with collective data and analysis to help identify the barriers patients may face and to identify the Dignity in Care Inventory. Her collected data gave an insight on how Dignity in Care can work to increase patients ability to access help for coping or learning the tools of coping. She also worked within the department of critical care and palliative care and analysed each patient to find ways that Dignity in Care could grow in its initial goal.
Janiece Strange is an active member in National Council of Negro Women, the Anti Grammateus for Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated; Gamma Chapter, served as Events Chair for the National Society of Leadership and success, and currently serves as ambassador for the Entruepship Society. Janiece also leads a “WE” program through the YMCA, promoting public community service for 3rd grade at Johnston Square Elementary. Janiece enjoys laughing, learning, and adventure.
