Carmen Guerra, MD, MSCE, Mentor
Carmen Guerra, MD, MSCE, Perelman School of Medicine faculty member and Vice Chair of Diversity and Inclusion, has been a SUMR mentor for ten years as well as a strong believer in the program's potential. In fact, in 2017, inspired by SUMR, Guerra joined with Perelman colleagues Rachel Werner, MD, PhD, and Marisa Rogers, MD, MPH, FACP, to launch a Penn Medicine version of the program. Called the Health Services Research Summer Scholars Program, the eight week curriculum enables second year medical students to take an Introduction to Health Policy and Services Research course, conduct research with a faculty mentor, attend the AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting, and make use of SUMR's weekly seminars.
