Therese Richmond, PhD, CRNP, FAAN
Penn Nursing School Professor of Nursing and Associate Dean for Research & Innovation, Therese Richmond is on her twelfth year as a mentor for SUMR Scholars.
"I am a nurse scientist and my research on violence and firearm violence focuses on those populations that bear the disproportionate burden -- in particular low resource urban, minority communities," she explained. "Because of this I believe it is critical that we diversify the cadre of researchers. SUMR students provide a wonderful opportunity to create a robust pipeline to a research career, to expose these students to the fun and rigor of research, and to help them learn how to respectfully work with community partners and diverse research participants. My hope for SUMR students is they leave with more than an appreciation of research -- I hope they leave with a passion to make the world a better place through research."
