Dr. Muench, is an Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing and the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies at University of California San Francisco. She is a nurse and health services researcher with a program of research focused on the health care workforce. Her research has been published in leading health care journals, including JAMA, NEJM, and Health Affairs. In current research she examines practice differences between NPs and primary care physicians, evaluates outcomes of independent scope of practice regulations for nurse practitioners, and studies earnings differences between male and female nurses. Dr. Muench has received the Junior Investigator Award from Academy Health’s Interdisciplinary Research Group on Nursing Issues and was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing in 2018. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Vanderbilt University and holds degrees from Yale University and the University of Cambridge, UK.
