Canada Montgomery, MD, MSHP is completing her neurosurgical residency at the Perelman School of Medicine. Dr. Montgomery hopes to focus on the intersection of health care disparities, neurotrauma and concussion prevention in the pediatric population via community-based care and health advocacy initiatives. In medical school, Montgomery became heavily involved in community outreach initiatives, allowing her to pursue her interest in community engagement and health advocacy while gaining interest in understanding the disparities facing marginalized populations that lead to health inequities. She is interested in studying health care and health disparities in the context of neurosurgical patient outcomes with a quality improvement lens.
For her MSHP thesis work, Dr. Montgomery conducted a qualitative implementation science study to evaluate neurosurgery Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) implementation as a way to explore provider engagement with the surgical pathway and potential factors leading to disparities in patient outcomes. Montgomery recently completed a combined MD/MSHP degree at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
