Michael O'Byrne, MD, MSCE

Michael L. O’Byrne, MD, MSCE is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and an Interventional Cardiologist in the Division of Cardiology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). He is a core faculty member in CHOP’s Clinical Futures program, LDI, and the Cardiovascular Outcomes, Quality, and Evaluative Research Center. He is the Director of CHOP’s Cardiac Center Clinical Research Core.

Dr. O’Byrne’s research focuses on improving outcomes in patients with congenital and acquired heart disease. His research combines the use of large observational datasets to assess quality of care and practice variation between hospitals, comparative effectiveness research, and patient-centered outcomes of patients undergoing cardiac procedures and their families.

Dr. O’Byrne received his undergraduate degree in Neurobiology from Harvard University, followed by his MD from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. His internship and residency were completed at CHOP, followed by a fellowship in pediatric cardiology and advanced fellowships in pediatric cardiovascular research and interventional cardiology. He completed his Master’s of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania. In 2017, he re-joined the faculty at CHOP.
