On March 21st, 2024, Ashish Thakrar, MD, MS, LDI Associate Fellow from the Perelman School of Medicine; Sarah S. Kawasaki, MD, Current OTP Medical Director Associate Professor of Medicine Penn State Health; Nicole O’Donnell, Project Manager Penn Center for Addiction Medicine & Policy (CAMP); and Julia Hinckley, JD, Director of Policy Strategy at LDI conducted a virtual briefing for a bipartisan group of staff from the U.S. House of Representatives regarding proposed Modernizing Opioid Treatment Access Act legislation to increase access to methadone to address the U.S. overdose epidemic. This team of experts outlined evidence suggesting that expanding who can prescribe methadone would reduce overdose deaths.
