Andy Tan, PhD, MPH, MBA, MBBS is an Associate Professor of Communication at the Annenberg School for Communication and Principal Investigator of the Communication and Health Equity Lab. His research program is aimed at advancing communication science to achieve health equity for all. His work examines the impact of tobacco industry marketing, social media, and public health messages on health behaviors and tobacco-related health disparities among diverse populations including young adults, socioeconomically disadvantaged, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) populations. He utilizes mixed-methods research designs, including sequential designs integrating multiple data collection and analytic methods. He is PI of an NCI-funded 5-year study using community-engaged research approaches to design and evaluate culturally responsive counter-tobacco messages to reduce the prevalence of cigarette smoking among young adult LGB women.
