Andy Tan, PhD, MPH is an Associate Professor of Communication at the Annenberg School for Communication and Principal Investigator of the Communication and Health Equity Lab. His research program is aimed at advancing communication science to achieve health equity for all. His work examines the impact of tobacco industry marketing, social media, and public health messages on health behaviors and tobacco-related health disparities among diverse populations including young adults, socioeconomically disadvantaged, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) populations. He utilizes mixed-methods research designs, including sequential designs integrating multiple data collection and analytic methods. He is PI of two NIH-funded R01 studies using community-engaged research approaches to design and evaluate culturally responsive counter-tobacco messages to reduce cigarette smoking among young adult LGB women (Project Resist) and to reduce vaping among LGBTQ+ youth.
