Dr. Aakhus is an instructor and assistant fellowship program director in the division of hematology-oncology at the University of Pennsylvania, where she completed a fellowship in Hematology/Oncologyshe and received a Masters of Science in Health Policy Research (MSHP). Originally from southern Indiana, she completed undergraduate and medical degrees, as well as a residency in internal medicine, at Indiana University. In her ongoing research, she employs qualitative and quantitative methods to study barriers to discussions about the financial burden of care between cancer patients and their providers. Under the mentorship of bioethicists Steven Joffe and Angela Bradbury, she is developing tools to facilitate the ethical implementation of cost transparency in the outpatient oncology setting.
