Sarita Sonalkar, MD, MPH is Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Co-Director of the Fellowship in Family Planning at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania, and medical school at Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School. She completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at the University of California - Los Angeles, and her Family Planning Fellowship and Masters in Public Health at Boston University.
Dr. Sonalkar’s research interests span broadly in family planning, including postpartum and post-abortion contraception, implementation of postpartum family planning programmatic interventions, and HIV prevention in cisgender women. Dr. Sonalkar has been a consultant for the World Health Organization Department of Reproductive Health and Research in Geneva, Switzerland. Her current projects include evaluation of HIV screening and prevention practices in gynecologic outpatient settings, and WHO and NIH-supported research to evaluate a hospital-based postpartum contraception implementation strategy in Accra, Ghana.
