Edvard Gumbs, MD

Edvard (Eddy) Gumbs, MD is a general cardiology fellow and Co-Chief Fellow for the 2022-2023 academic year. After medical school, Dr. Gumbs completed his internal medicine residency at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, followed by his match to cardiology fellowship at Penn. Dr. Gumbs has been exposed to and taken much interest in the intersection of cardiovascular health equity and improving patient outcomes of underrepresented minorities. He has matriculated into the Master of Science in Health Policy Research program and hopes to continue building upon his knowledge to pursue a career as a clinician scholar, combining clinical cardiology along with health equity research within the Philadelphia area.

Dr. Gumbs is originally from Woodbridge Township, New Jersey and received his BA in History at Cornell University with a pre-medicine concentration. After pursuing Master’s level coursework at Rutgers Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and working as an emergency medical technician, he matriculated into Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in Camden, New Jersey. This formative experience exposed him to the challenges of health inequities in vulnerable populations.
