Michelle Heredia, RN, is a PhD student and an NIH T32 predoctoral fellow in the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research at the University of Pennsylvania. She is also pursuing a Certificate in Law from the Penn Carey Law School. She has always been passionate about working in the community, where health is formed. She spent several years working as a public health nurse in disease control and surveillance at a local health department in Northern California. This experience cemented her passion for public health and made her aware of the lack of evidence about the work experiences and job outcomes of public health nurses. Heredia’s research focuses on the public health and school nurse workforce and the impact of state and local policy on their work environments and resources, as well as the health outcomes of their patients and populations. Her goal is to reduce health disparities through public policy change. Heredia earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of California, Irvine, in 2021.
