Avi Talsania
Avi Talsania is a first-year student at the University of Pennsylvania pursuing a dual degree from the College of Arts and Sciences and The Wharton School. He has strong interests in health policy, economics, and medicine.
As a SUMR scholar, he conducts research with Dr. Timothy Nelin and Dr. Heather Burris at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Penn Medicine. With Dr. Nelin, he examines post-NICU follow-up rates among preterm infants and analyzes environmental and structural barriers to care. With Dr. Burris, he contributes to the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program, investigating early-life exposures and their connections to child development and health. Through these projects, Talsania hopes to explore how research, healthcare delivery, and health policy intersect—and how better alignment across sectors can reduce disparities in pediatric outcomes.
At Penn, Talsania is involved in the United Minorities Council, the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics as a student worker, and undergraduate research. In his free time, he enjoys playing the flute and exploring the great city of Philadelphia.
