Major: Biomedical Sciences

Sharon Alex is a second-year student in the Sophie Davis BS/MD Program at the CUNY School of Medicine, pursuing her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences. She is passionate about oncology, with a specific interest in pediatric cancer and cancer genetics. She is committed to advancing health equity through clinical research and aims to address disparities in cancer care and outcomes, particularly in underserved communities.

As a mentor under Dr. Parga-Belinki and her team, Alex will work on researching the impact of social media on the spread of misinformation about pediatric healthcare. Sharon will also be working with Dr. Peter Cronholm and Ms. Andrea Bilger to develop qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills with the mixed methods research lab at the LDI. Her goals for the summer include gaining hands-on experience in public health research and translating those insights into her studies and service at Sophie Davis. Her work underscores the importance of inclusive, patient-centered research in improving long-term health outcomes.

Alex is also a private tutor around NYC. She also enjoys dancing and going on walks around the city. She is on the leadership board for Walk with a Doc, an organization committed to communicating with the public on healthy habits through walks. Alex hopes to become a physician-scientist and make meaningful contributions to cancer research, combining compassionate care with innovative science.
