Stephanie Agu is a rising senior at Rice University, pursuing a BA in Health Sciences with a minor in Politics, Law, and Social Thought. She is deeply passionate about addressing minority health disparities and aims to integrate her studies in healthcare equity with health policy. After graduation, Stephanie plans to attend graduate school to earn an MPH with a concentration in health policy while working in the healthcare sector.

During her time with SUMR, Stephanie collaborates with Dr. Jaya Aysola at the Center of Health Equity Advancement. Her work focuses on evaluating universal screening methods to assess patients’ social needs and developing screening procedures for healthcare professionals, to improve the provider-patient relationship. Additionally, she partners with PhD candidate Eda Algur to assess healthcare delivery methods in an emergency care setting. This project aims to provide insights into the realities of healthcare interactions in time-sensitive environments and suggest improvements to enhance the patient experience in emergency rooms.

Stephanie is actively involved in the Baylor Patient Discharge Initiative as an emergency room volunteer. She also serves as a Health Advocacy Intern for Legacy Community Health, where she engages with both primary care and emergency care settings daily. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, listening to music, and watching Netflix originals with friends.
