University of Pennsylvania , Class of 2027

Major: Health and Societies

Trent Leung is a rising junior from San Francisco majoring in Health and Societies on the pre-med track. As a HSOC major, he approaches health from a social and institutional standpoint and is interested in researching healthcare disparities across clinical settings.

In the summer of his freshman year, he worked under Dr. Harald Schmidt, examining the Area Deprivation Index and cost and quality outcomes for the most disadvantaged communities according to the Index. He is currently working with the Penn Center for Evidence Based Practice, learning how to conduct systematic literature reviews and work with qualitative data. This summer, he will be working with two mentors – first, with Andrea Bilger and her team at Penn’s Mixed Methods Research Lab, and second, with Dr. Carla Zeballos Torrez and the breast cancer radiology team to examine patient navigation systems and outcomes for individuals enrolled in the Penn Medicine Breast Health Initiative Program.

At Penn, Leung co-chairs the Asian American Studies Undergraduate Board, edits for the Penn Bioethics Journal, and serves as secretary for the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. In his free time, he enjoys attending Phillies games, reading critical theory, and gaming.
