Umayr Ahmed

Umayr Ahmed is a rising senior at the University of Michigan majoring in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience, with strong interests in health equity, health care access, and community-based care.

Through the SUMR program, Ahmed is working with Dr. Yuvaram Reddy to evaluate a novel value-based kidney care pathway. His project involves qualitative interviews with patients and clinicians to understand how the model influences care delivery and coordination for individuals with advanced chronic kidney disease.

At Michigan, Ahmed founded HOPE, a student-led initiative that connects uninsured patients to free clinics, Medicaid enrollment support, and multilingual health literacy resources. He also serves as president of Yes No Fingers (YNF), a student organization that created and maintains a clinical language guide to help providers in free clinics overcome language barriers using culturally informed translations.

He plans to pursue medicine alongside work in public health systems reform. In his free time, he enjoys running, reading, playing soccer, and exploring new hiking trails.
