Dr. Shah is an oncologist at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. At FDA, his efforts are focused on the intersection of drug development, regulatory science, big data, and health economics. As Intrapreneur-in-Residence, he is scaling the FDA Oncology Center of Excellence big data initiative, Information Exchange and Data Transformation (INFORMED), into a health technology incubator for strategic partnerships, research, and innovation. INFORMED is expanding organizational and technical infrastructure for big data analytics and developing novel approaches to evidence generation in support of regulatory decisions. Dr. Shah is also an attending radiation oncologist at the National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Shah was previously on faculty at Duke University where he led the Center for Excellence in Surgical Outcomes as its Associate Director. He completed a health economics fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania where he developed significant experience with economic, financial, and valuation modeling in the evaluation of novel and emerging therapeutics. Dr. Shah has received research funding from government and philanthropic sources including the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of State, and the Radiation Oncology Institute.

Dr. Shah was chief resident during his radiation oncology residency at Columbia University. He concurrently earned his MD from the University of Pennsylvania and an MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Shah graduated with honors from Duke University with a BS in economics. He also served as a Canada-U.S. Fulbright Scholar at the University of Toronto.
