Policing, Race, and Health: Prospects for Reform

Conversation with Rachel Hardeman, PhD, MPH, Edwin Lindo, JD, John MacDonald, PhD, and Charles Ramsey, MS

12:00p.m. – 1:00p.m. ET June 26, 2020 Virtual Event

Read event recap here.

Police brutality and racism have uniquely, and detrimentally, impacted the health of Black communities. The killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and many others, have resulted in renewed calls for police reform, including calls to defund or abolish police departments. Others have advocated for shifting funds to community resources such as education, job training, and violence prevention programs. Our panel of experts examined how different models of police reform can protect public health and safety while ending systematic violence and racism.
