Amol Navathe, MD, PhD is a Professor of Health Policy, Medicine, and Healthcare Management at the University of Pennsylvania. He is Vice Chairman and Commissioner of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC), a non-partisan agency that advises the U.S. Congress on Medicare policy. He is also a co-founder of Embedded Healthcare (now Clarify Health), a health care technology company that brings behavioral economics solutions to improving affordability and quality. Dr. Navathe is a leading scholar on: (1) the impact of value based care and payment models; (2) financial and non-financial incentive design using behavioral economics; and (3) equitable risk-adjustment methodologies.
Dr. Navathe’s experience spans academics, the private sector, and government service. He has past experience with large-scale government-led projects, having served as Medical Officer and Senior Program Manager for the $1B federal Comparative Effectiveness Research program. His thought leadership led to the founding of Health Care: The Journal of Delivery Science and Innovation as Co-Editor-in-Chief. His work has been published in numerous leading journals, including Science, the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), and Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
Dr. Navathe completed his medical training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and his post-graduate medical training at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School. He obtained his PhD in Health Care Management and Economics from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
