Sumedha Chhatre, PhD

Sumedha Chhatre, PhD is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine. Her research focuses on two broad areas: 1) Intersection of physical and mental health among people with HIV and cancers and 2) Preference assessment and patient-centered care interventions to improve quality of care. Dr. Chhatre conducts clinical trials, prospective studies, and secondary data analysis to study important questions related to mental health, substance abuse (including opioids), HIV, and cancers, and their health outcomes, including disparities. Her expertise is in the use of Medicare, SEER-Medicare, Medicaid, and Veterans Health Administration data. Dr. Chhatre is also actively involved in the development of decision-aids for preference assessment intervention and their implications for patient-centered care. She holds a PhD in Urban Affairs from the University of Louisville, and an MS in International Development from University of Pennsylvania.
